Joan Manén´s instruments play again in the hands of Kalina Macuta and Daniel Blanch at the Music Museum

A violin and piano recital by Kalina Macuta and Daniel Blanch will take place next Wednesday, December 15 at 7 pm at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona. In this concert we will listen to works by Manén, Tartini, Blas de Laserna, Sarasate, Wieniawski and Hubay performed with the instruments of the composer and violinist: the violin Étienne Maire with whom he debuted at the Hochschule in Berlin and his grand piano Blüthner who has was ceded by its current owner specifically for the exhibition “Joan Manén. Pride and destiny ”.

This concert will recreate a typical recital of the early twentieth century, similar to those performed by violinist Joan Manén throughout his long career. The display of virtuosity and instrumental brilliance from the adaptation of classical repertoire or traditional works is characteristic of the soirées of the time.

The first part of the recital will be dedicated to some of the transcriptions that the violinist made on baroque works, adaptations that involve a very frequent romantic revision at that time, a fusion between the baroque world and the personal harmonic style of the composer, including a cadence own writing for Tartini's Sonata "Il trillo del diabolo".

The recital will also offer an overview of Joan Manén's compositions with works from various stages: works of extreme youth such as Romancita op. 7 and Elegy op. 27, the latter dedicated to the violin luthier Étienne Maire, to works of maturity such as the Iberian Dance no. 2 op. A-25 or Capricho op. A-33 "Catalan", work of the first stage reworked extensively during the last years. The program is completed by works by violin-related authors, including Pablo Sarasate, whom he met and treated several times in Berlin from 1898, and the important Czech violinist Jeno Hubay, who composed several pieces dedicated to Manén, including "Radiant Sun".

Joan Manén developed an extensive career over more than sixty years touring Europe and America. According to German critics, Joan Manén's technique was extraordinarily developed and precise, his sound sweet, pure and always cantabile, and his interpretations gave off a great elegance and naturalness. With this recital, through the musician's own instruments and his repertoire we will have a unique opportunity to be able to recall the virtuosity, passion and lyricism of his memorable live performances.
