Josep Maria Brotons
(Barcelona, 1931- 2017)





He studied at the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona, harmony, counterpoint and fugue with Joaquim Zamacois. He studied flute with his father and later was examined at the Conservatory obtaining the top grades. Later, he expanded his knowledge with Francesc Casanovas.

At sixteen he was already a soloist with the Banda Municipal de Barcelona, ??the youngest in the entire history of this institution. Later he entered the Orquestra Municipal de Barcelona (later the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya) where he worked for forty-one years, until his retirement. He carried out numerous concerts as a soloist, highlighting the premiere in Barcelona of Belvedere for flute and orchestra by Joan Manén with the Orquesta de Radio Nacional, under the conduction of Rafael Ferrer. He was part of various chamber groups such as the Quartet Germans, the Trio Santa Cecilia, the Conjunt Català de Música Contemporània and the group Diabolus in music. He was founder and member of the Aulos wind Quintet. In the field of composition, he wrote several chamber works and numerous arrangements, transcriptions and harmonizations.
