Joan Chic
(Lleida, 1967- )

He was born in Lleida, where he started music with his father, Ricard Chic -distinguished guitarist, student of Emili Pujol-, professor and former director of the Professional Conservatory of Music in this city.

He began his violin studies with Leopoldo Gil, piano with Mª Carmen Grasa and musical language with Josep Prenafeta. Later, he studied violin in Barcelona with Joan Pàmies, Gerard Claret and Sergio Prieto (assistant of Yehudi Menhuhin).

He received advice from composers such as Leo Brouwer, Benet Casablancas, Albert Solé, Itzak Sada and George Benjamín. The first three works he composed were awarded in the Young Composers Competition organized by the Generalitat de Catalunya. Some of his works have been published by the Institut Català de Serveis a la Joventut, Boileau, La mà de guido and Tritó. He has edited three recordings as a composer-performer: Indicios, Ignoto and Cromos.

Combine compositional and concert activity with the teaching. He is Professor of Violin at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Zaragoza.
